Switching merchant services in Ireland

Switching provider is mostly a contract and logistics exercise. The payment part is straightforward; the notice periods, returns and integration re-testing are where switches go wrong.

Read the exit terms first

Check the remaining term, notice period, any early termination charge and what must be returned. Do this before agreeing a start date with anyone.

Terminal returns

Rented terminals usually have to be returned in working order by a stated date. Missing units are charged, so count the estate first.

Integration re-testing

If terminals talk to a till, PMS or accounting system, that integration is re-tested on the new setup before the old one is switched off.

Settlement overlap

Plan for a period where transactions from both providers settle, so the finance team knows which bank credits belong to which arrangement.
